School: King Edward's Witley
John Attwater is an educator with over 20 years’ experience in leading UK independent schools. He has been Headmaster of King Edward’s School, Witley, Surrey since January 2010.
Educated in UK boarding schools from the age of 7, he gained a First Class degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Oxford University. He trained as a History teacher at York University, and then joined Wells Cathedral School, where he ran the Religious Studies Department and was Housemaster of a senior boys’ boarding house. In December 2005 he moved to Sevenoaks School to be Deputy Head. Sevenoaks gave him his first experience of the IB Diploma, now the main Sixth Form curriculum at King Edward’s. Since moving to King Edward’s he has planned and overseen significant growth and investment and the expansion of the IB programme. John Attwater is a governor of two schools and on the Advisory Board of the Springboard Foundation for Boarding Bursaries. He is married with two daughters and his interests include reading, cricket and his family.
