James MacDonald

James MacDonald has been Head of School at NIST since 2013. Before settling in Bangkok, James also worked in Singapore at the Canadian International School and, most recently, in Japan where he was Head of School at Yokohama International School (another 3 programme IB World School).
James is also active in representing NIST externally, serving as Chair of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Asia Pacific Regional Council, which represents over 600 IB schools in the region. He is also a board member of the East Asia Regional Council of Schools (EARCOS) and, closer to home, is on the executive committee of the International Schools Association of Thailand (ISAT). Over the course of his career, he has published numerous articles on leadership in international education and is a regular presenter at various educational conferences throughout the Asia Pacific region. James holds two undergraduate degrees (B.Ed. & B. Mgt) from the University of Lethbridge (Canada), an MA in Education from the University of Bath (UK), and an MBA from the University of British Columbia (Canada). James’ wife Corry, who is also Canadian, is an artist and art therapist and together they have three school-aged children who all attend NIST.
